As the season winds down, the work doesn't stop — it shifts. This edition covers wrapping up the year, getting your soil ready for winter, new resources for orchard and berry growers, a look behind the scenes, and a reminder to plan your orders ahead of the next season.

📋 Take stock
Review what worked this season: yields, inputs, timing and what your soil asked of you. Notes taken now make next season's plan much easier.
🧪 Test your soil
A fall soil test gives you a baseline for your nitrogen budget, so you can confirm application rates against real numbers rather than guesses.
🔄 Plan the recharge
Between crops, an application of Pescadero Gold recharges the soil biology and replaces the organic nitrogen your last crop pulled out, so the benefit builds over successive seasons.

Winter Preparation
Pick the right form
Milled is for growers who need quick biorenovation of their soil. Pellets are for prolonged fertility release, a slow release of nutrients over a longer window.
Watch soil temperature
Soil biology does its best work at roughly 70–80 °F (21–27 °C). Cooler winter soils slow things down, so build your timing around planting.
Work back from planting
For pre-plant applications, we recommend working Pescadero Gold in about three weeks before planting. Set your winter calendar around that date.

Replanting an Orchard?
Fall is a good time to prepare replant ground. One pre-plant application of Pescadero Gold rebuilds the root zone and feeds the new planting through establishment.
🌱 Bio-renovation
Worked into warm, moist soil, Pescadero Gold feeds beneficial organisms and rebuilds a diverse, active community in the zone where new roots will grow.
🌿 Organic N, timed to roots
A 4.5-1.5-1.0 organic fertilizer with gradual release. Nitrogen mineralizes as roots establish, and the residual feeds trees through years 2 and 3.
⏳ A shift that lasts
Field trials document changes in the soil microbiome lasting multiple growing seasons, corresponding with strong establishment and yields.
🧰 Fewer passes
At the standard rate, built-in organic N reduces or eliminates the need for a separate pre-plant nitrogen application.

Two ways to apply
Full-block replant: Broadcast 0.090 to 0.2 lbs per sq ft of treated plant row, incorporate 6 to 12 inches deep, and irrigate to working moisture (about 22 to 24% volumetric water content). Tarping with TIF plastic is optional but improves results.
Single-plant or gap replacement: Mix 4 to 8 lbs of Pescadero Gold into the soil from each planting hole (about 3 ft across and 2 to 4 ft deep), backfill and irrigate heavily.
Then wait: Allow at least 3 weeks from irrigation before planting, and longer when soil is below 60 °F.
Timing: Pescadero Gold can be applied any time of year. Soil temperatures of 70 to 80 °F are ideal, which makes late summer and early fall a great window ahead of winter planting. Confirm rates against your own soil test and nitrogen budget, and contact your Farm Fuel representative for your row width and site.
